This video describes the criticism of the 2008 John McCain presidential campaign after recruiting conservative activist, Ralph Reed to promote an Atlanta, Georgia campaign event.
Reed was at the center of the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal in 2006. Abramoff was able to extract millions in profits as he took money from the Native American casino groups to pay Reed to create grassroots anti-gambling campaigns and mobilized Christian groups to block competing interests.
Demonstrators outside cited both the dishonest campaigns Reed has been apart of and the fact that Reed has sold influence with Christian conservative voters to the highest corporate bidder as a Washington D.C. lobbyist.
Reed told an Atlanta newspaper that the McCain campaign had actually recruited him to help raise campaign funds at a fundraiser. The Christian conservative voters still have great respect for Reeds past within the party. Two million dollars was raised during the 90 minute event.
McCain has tried to establish himself as the true reformer amongst the candidates for the 2008 Republican nomination, he is even seen citing his investigation into the Abramoff scandal for support. The McCain campaign is drawing heavy criticism from the blatant political ties seen between Reed and Abramoff.
