Sarah Palin's Hidden Base

Sarah Palin has something to hide, especially from swing voters: her deep roots and thriving base of support among social conservatives who are thrilled at the prospect of overturning Roe v. Wade, among other things. Palin and the GOP leaders at the 2008 Convention avoid speaking frankly about the social conservative agenda, but ANP got an earful when we spoke with GOP delegates and anti-abortion activists at the convention.

Global Warming Heats up RNC

Presidential candidate John McCain thinks that global warming is created, in part, by humans, but his running mate, Sarah Palin, disagrees. Indeed the Republican Party Platform cautions people to be skeptical of the theory of global warming. ANP spoke with delegates at the Republican National Convention about their thoughts on climate change.

Turmoil in the Twin Cities

Protesters and police clashed on the first day of the RNC. Near the convention hall in St. Paul, Minnesota, people smashed shop and car windows, and police officers maced and smoke bombed protesters. By the end of day one, police had arrested 284 people.

Party Town, Denver

Even under strict new ethics rules, corporate lobbyists are spending millions of dollars to influence lawmakers at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. ANP spoke with Nancy Watzman, head of the Sunlight Foundation's Party Time Project, who is tracking the "political partying circuit."

Police Trap Peaceful Protesters in Denver

A calm political protest quickly turned chaotic as anxious Denver police surrounded protestors peacefully marching toward the Democratic National Convention Center. After trapping the crowd between two buildings, hundreds of officers used pepper spray, batons and unwarranted aggression. After being surrounded for 20 minutes, two ANP producers managed to escape after recording the whole affair.

McCain Gambles on Ralph Reed

John McCain's investigation into Jack Abramoff's Indian-gaming scandal found Ralph Reed at its center. But now Reed claims to be on McCain's "Victory Team 2008." ANP went to Atlanta to observe a McCain fundraiser promoted by Ralph Reed.

Buchanan Under Fire

Congressman Vern Buchanan, of the 13th district in Florida, is facing increasing trouble in his reelection campaign. A first-term congressman and a long-time autodealer, Buchanan is being sued by a remarkable number of former employees and customers at the very height of the campaign season. So far, seven separate legal complaints have been filed against Buchanan, accusing him of flouting campaign finance laws, defrauding banks and customers, and even smuggling undocumented immigrants into the country to work on his beachfront house. ANP traveled to Florida to investigate the story.

The Obama Muslim Myth

A new national study by the Pew Research Center shows that 12 percent of the country still believes Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim. ANP looks into how this myth has been perpetuated in the media.

Wal-Mart: Political Bully

Wal-Mart is one of the world's top 20 economic entities. For years, the retail giant has been plagued by bad press. Now it has to fend off a Wall Street Journal report that it's been politically bullying its employees. ANP headed over to a Wal-Mart in Virginia to ask shoppers what they think.

Israel, Iran and the New Neocons

Washington's neocons are alive and well and are advising both John McCain and President Bush. Now many are saying Bush should permit Israel to attack Iran's nuclear facilities after Election Day before the new president takes office. ANP investigates as we chase down John Bolton, Bill Kristol and Frank Gaffney to see how far ahead these hawks are thinking.
