Hunger is becoming a rising issue in America. The Farm Bill states that the minimum amount of food stamps will be $14.00 a month for an individual. With prices in the economy rising organizations are helping to give free food to people dependent on food stamps. Bread for the City located in Washington DC has 100-150 people coming in each day and 200+ families each month in need. The elderly on incomes that are fixed are becoming the most dependent on food stamps.
Brian Duss decided to take the Food Stamp challenge in order to personally get an idea of how much people are able to get by with food stamps. After a week of the challenge Brian reported feeling sluggish and having a hard time concentrating. In a week he consumed only 1500 calories opposed to the recommended amount of 4000 calories a day. It is evident to see that with the rise of prices in the economy food stamps are becoming not enough for those to live off of who are facing poverty.
In conclusion hunger is becoming an issue that needs to be addressed. Overall, food stamp amounts are becoming not enough and not realistic for an economy whose prices keep going up.
